FG begins cash disbursement to Imo households

The Federal government through the office of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Social Development led by the Minister Hajiya Umar Farouk has commenced its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) in the 27 LGA ‘s of Imo State.
The Minister ,Hajiya Umar Farouk told newsmen at the payment venue in Owerri on Thursday that the first phase of the scheme captured over 9 LGAs of the state, noting that presently it has covered over 27 LGA of the state.
She said the scheme was introduced to cushion the effect of the Covid -19 pandemic and alleviate poverty among vulnerable households who falls below the poverty line across the country.
Her words,” From record about 29,202 enrolled poor and vulnerable Households benefited from the payment in line with the federal government promise to offset the backlog of payments.”
“The payment for the old beneficiaries received 30,000 for a period of 6 months that started from January to June at the rate of 5,000 per month while the new beneficiaries were paid 10,000 each for two months”
The Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals/ Humanitarian Services, Hon Princess Christine Ude thanked the executive Governor of the state, Senator Hope Uzodinma for his commitment towards enacting the programme in his 3R agenda and also for his support for the implementation of the programme.

She maintained that the governor in his magnanimity has been able to include other 18 LGAS that were not captured at the initial time.
Mrs Ude commended the efforts of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs for her doggedness in overseeing that the programme is implemented effectively.
She also thanked the Unit Head, Imo State Cash Transfer, Mr Joseph Odiemenam and his team for their efforts in ensuring the effectiveness of the programme.
Speaking to newsmen respectively , the Communication Officer, Mrs Amaka Obienu and the monitoring and Evaluation officer Mrs Judith Onwuneme said the beneficiaries were drawn from the National Beneficiary Register and has undergone some training on how to save part of the money through monthly contribution as the money is meagre, it can be saved by the beneficiaries for their businesses and other purposes.
The beneficiaries expressed delight over the programme while others expressed grief over the mode of payment.
